Doing the public’s business is important. Whether it’s educating our children, building roads and bridges, safeguarding our health, attending to the needs of the less fortunate, defending the nation, or fighting crime, most fair-minded people will agree that government matters. Yet, many Americans have soured on government, perceiving it to be too costly and often ineffective.
To be fair, public enterprises today are under pressure from four inescapable trends: (1) a mounting fiscal crisis of dangerous dimensions; (2) an accelerating brain drain of key management and leadership talent; (3) a dated business model that is ponderous and unduly costly to operate; and, (4) a growing number of consumer-conditioned citizens who are unwilling to suffer bureaucracy gladly.
Together and separately, these drivers are forcing public policy-level executives and program managers to seek new strategies and creative solutions for serving the public. Helping discover and deploy innovative approaches is the business of GovernmentWise
